The Society was originally founded in 2001 by Phil Stonier, Dennis Stallard and Barry Brereton. The three of them travelled to Castle Douglas for a golfing weekend and played at Colvend GC, Kirkcudbright GC and Brighouse Bay GC. It was so enjoyable that they decided to go again the following year. Each year the size of the party has grown to where we are today.
During our Tour in 2007 it was decided to form a Society so that we could play competitive golf throughout the year and not just on Tour in September. Membership of the Society is by invitation only and all our members have come highly recommended.
The Society Golf Days are being planned to supplement our Annual Tour which as taken us to parts of Scotland and Wales. It is at the discretion of the Organiser whether or not guests of members will be allowed. This will depend on the flexibility of booking numbers at the courses.
The playing calendar consists of about 8 Society days during the traditional golfing season with an Annual Tour consisting of two nights in a hotel and playing three golf courses. At all of our events there is a Nearest the Pin and a Longest Drive Competition to add interest to the day.
In 2009, as well as the Order of Merit Stableford Competition, we introduced a second type of Order of Merit Competition for Stroke Play. This will be awarded to the player with the lowest gross stroke play score with handicaps not being taken into consideration.
The introduction of the Web Site is to improve communication, hold information, records, photographs and save the Organiser time and energy. The emphasis is placed firmly on the member to decide where and when they want to play and inform the Organiser. Strict closing dates for each event with a list of all players playing each event will be displayed on the web site.
We have a Captain appointed Annually and are a very informal group with an emphasis on enjoyment.
The group has grown and roles may be introduced to help out in organising the events.
In the Society we have a Captain, Organiser, Fine Master, Handicap/Results Secretary—simple but the Society works well.
Our Handicaps are determined by a system created by our present Captain Andrew Abell. Handicaps are reviewed after each event.
We have introduced a membership of just ₤5 per annum to cover the cost of the Web Site and other small expenses.
Golf Courses we have played since the Annual Tour started in September 2001.
