In 2012 we head off to Anglesey in North Wales where we will be staying at the Trecastell
Hotel located on the northern coast of the island close to Amlwch and Bull Bay.
We will be playing three excellent courses. I have been able to negotiate an excellent
package which includes dinner, bed and breakfast and three rounds of golf and the
cost of trophies - all for ₤195. We have booked a maximum of 24 places on the Tour
.
On Friday we will be playing at Henllys Golf Club. Saturday we will be visiting Holyhead
Golf Club and finally we will be playing Bull Bay Golf Club on the Sunday.
The Trecastell Hotel is situated on the northern coast of the island, close to Amlwch and Bull Bay and has stunning sea views. The Trecastell Hotel is a superb family-run establishment that offers guests excellent hospitality in elegant surroundings. Well known for its relaxing and friendly atmosphere. It is a popular hotel in Amlwch with quests returning year after year for those who appreciate a high standard of service.
The Hotel has 12 guest rooms, singles, doubles, twins and family rooms - all with freeview TV, radio alarm, telephone and hospitality tray. Most rooms have sea views that provide a cosy and relaxing haven away from the hustle and bustle of 21st century life! In order to accommodate our party we will need to make use of the family rooms available
The combination of sea and welsh air ensures a keen appetite and dining at the Trecastell is one of the experiences that make a stay here such a memorable occasion. Dine in comfort whilst your meal is served in the conservatory, bar or restaurant with panoramic views of the Bull Bay coastline
Located on the stunningly beautiful Isle of Anglesey, Holyhead offers some of the best golf to be had in Wales. Enjoying fantastic views towards the mountains of Snowdonia and situated only one mile from the port of Holyhead, gateway to Ireland, the course is a challenging heathland 18-hole championship course, designed in 1912 by five-time Open champion James Braid, with some of the best greens to be found anywhere.
Although not particularly long by modern standards, the course is a thoroughly good test for players of all standards, with narrow, undulating fairways, and rough comprising gorse, heather and bracken. Strangely there are no trees on the course but don’t let that fool you. A glance at the scorecard tells you that the course measures just over 6,000 yards in length from the back tees ( 6090 yards, par 71. 5208 yards, par 72 for the ladies). Moreover, from a distance, it looks relatively tame with only one serious hill to negotiate. Look a little closer however, and you will soon realise that not only are the fairways extremely narrow and quite undulating but the rough comprises of much gorse, heather and bracken giving rise to all kinds of challenges.
If that wasn’t enough, there is also a strong wind which whips across the Irish Sea to contend with. After your round, a warm and friendly welcome awaits you in the clubhouse, where you can take your pick from tasty bar-meals or an à la carte menu. No wonder they call Holyhead the jewel in Wales’ golfing crown.
Henllys Golf Course is an 18 hole par 71 course set in mature parkland, within the grounds of the historic Henllys Hall. (Known locally as Beaumaris Golf Club)
The course is now 10 years old and is maturing well. The course makes superb use of the natural features, The parkland course, being rather spacious in parts, allows you to open the shoulders and go for it but there are ponds, streams and clumps of trees that are only too willing to gobble up your ball when you least expect it. The course is testing for every level of player.
Its elevated position affords players unparalleled views of the surrounding countryside and the mountains of Snowdonia.

Bull Bay Golf Club is the most northerly course in Wales - the host country of the 2010 Ryder Cup. A Celtic nation steeped in history, proud of its culture, renowned for its scenic beauty and blessed with some of the best golf in the British Isles.
Few can rival the spectacular setting of the 18 hole championship course at Bull Bay, laid out above the rugged coastline on the beautiful holiday island of Anglesey, with panoramic views of the mountains of Snowdonia and over the Irish Sea to the Isle of Man and the distant hills of the Lake District.
Founded in 1913 and the only course in Wales created by Herbert Fowler , his design at Bull Bay was influenced by his most famous work at Walton Heath. Using the natural features of the land he built a course that climbs and falls, twists and turns, through valleys and on plateau, between rocky outcrops and areas of gorse - a spectacular riot of scented flowers when in full bloom.
With its modern clubhouse and superb facilities, visitors are guaranteed a warm welcome and excellent value for money. Due to the nature of the land and the favourable weather enjoyed by the area, the course which is always maintained to the highest standard, is playable throughout the year, offering a memorable round of golf for players of all abilities. The club motto is “Her Deg ar Hen Dir” meaning an honest challenge on ancient land, and with a blend of traditional and modern, lush fairways and superb greens, visitors to Bull Bay are assured of an experience to remember.
