Tour 2005 - Dumfries

Congratulations to Phil Stonier on becoming this years Tour Champion winning both the Stableford and Strokeplay Competitions. The 5th Tour proved to be another great weekend and enjoyed by everyone. Peter Simms had a great start to the weekend with scores of 35 and 36 at Locherbie and Kirkcudbright with Phil Stonier and Les Smith waiting to jump in should Pete fall

short at the last hurdle at Dumfries and Galloway Golf Club.

It all came down to the last round with the scores fairly even. Bar chat in the evening and over dinner on the Saturday night suggested that the winner would come from either Peter Simms, Les Smith or Phil Stonier. Keeping the bar open until 4.00am on the Saturday night seemed a good idea at the time but Simms and Smith just could not cope with “The Pill” that enabled a sprightly Stonier to drink the night through - Simms and Smith had been nobbled!! - as they both admitted the following morning at breakfast. Had their been a drugs test on Sunday morning for Phil Stonier, then the story may have been different. In fact Sunday morning was a bit of a disaster for Messrs Simms and Smith— they overslept, breakfast was late and Pete Simms kept

everyone waiting on the car park because he had to go back to his room to find his spectacles only to find that they were in his pocket all the time!! To top it all the last round of golf just did not happen for them and Phil edged home with three points to spare.

Finally, a big thank you to Dennis Stallard for organising the Polo shirts even though we did look like a flock of canaries walking the courses of Scotland.
